Learn About Our Training Programs
Introduction to Psychoanalysis Program
The Introduction to Psychoanalysis (IP) Program is designed to provide a foundation in the principles, theories, and techniques of psychodynamic psychotherapy. Participants in this program are mental health professionals who wish to develop and hone their clinical skills through classroom learning, mentoring and clinical case discussions. Participants will gain the support and confidence necessary to develop or expand their private practices or work more effectively with patients in community mental health agencies, schools, universities, and health care settings. Although this program provides participants with a certificate of completion, many are stimulated to continue their training, and opt to enroll in the more in-depth program offered at our Institute. Should Candidates choose to continue their training with NJI beyond the 1-year program, all course credits will be applied toward the 5-year program.
The Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Program
The Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy Studies Program will provide a theoretical framework and practical approach to understanding human development which will, in turn, enhance clinical skills. Participants will increase their knowledge of how the mind of the child unfolds through patterns of behavior, attachment styles, regression, repetition, fixation, and the development of personality. Untangling the web of conflict between parent and child will be explored through the lens of developmental milestones.
Advanced Psychoanalytic Program
NJI offers a postgraduate training program for licensed mental health professionals as well as graduate level professionals in a variety of disciplines. This program gives its Candidates the ability to begin or expand their private practice while enhancing their clinical expertise. Our program is the first formal psychoanalytic training program for non-medical professionals in the State of New Jersey to be accredited by the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis, Inc. (ABAP). Our training programs are committed to developing and enhancing excellent clinical skills in an atmosphere of stimulating dialogue and instruction.
