Howard Cutler is an experienced licensed clinical social worker and certified psychoanalyst. He has been in private practice for over 20 years and is a graduate of the Hunter School of Social Work in New York City and the New Jersey Institute for Training in Psychoanalysis in Teaneck, New Jersey. He currently provides clinical and psychoanalytic supervision to graduate and psychoanalytic candidates and teaches on the topic of the working alliance at the NJI.
Past work experiences include, medical social work at St. Mary Hospital in Hoboken and later as a psychotherapist for the Jewish Family Service of MetroWest. Awarded for outstanding service by the Jewish Communal Service Organization of New Jersey, Howard was later promoted to the Director of the Hudson County Services, where he supervised a clinical team of social workers, oversaw a kosher meals on wheels program and a senior lunch program. Years later, Howard served as an Assessment Coordinator, and Psychotherapist at the Renfrew Center of NJ specializing in helping men and women with eating disorders and complex trauma.
In 2008, Howard was asked to take on the role of Clinic Director while NJI transitioned from Catalpa Avenue to our current location on Cedar Lane in Teaneck. Since taking on the role, Howard’s role has evolved as he helps mental health professionals in their professional development. In addition to providing clinical oversight of the Clinic, Howard has helped to organize open houses, continuing education programs, fund raisers, and has presented at community education programs to help promote psychoanalysis to community mental health professionals.
