  1. To enrich appreciation of the many roles pain can play in life and expand and refine awareness of therapeutic                  possibilities in face of it.

  2. Explore the roles of varied therapeutic attitudes and their uses at different times, e.g., kinds of openness,                         receptivity,  active suggestions, and background support.

  3. Enhance sensitivity to the complexity of experience  and its multidimensionality in face of tendencies to be overly           reductive, simplistic, prematurely jump to conclusions, dogmatize-stigmatize, magnify-minimize.
